The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) joined the OPAL partnership in 2014 as we expanded our work to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
TCV cares about people, the communities in which they live and the quality of their environment. Their goal is to work together with people and communities to help them transform their health, prospects and outdoor places for the long term.
They believe that looking after green places isn’t just about caring for nature - it's about including everyone and caring for people as well. Their volunteers care for thousands of local green places throughout the UK and in doing so improve the environment, their own wellbeing, develop new skills and make their local community a better place to live in.
TCV and OPAL
TCV's OPAL programme will engage people in areas of deprivation across Scotland to spend more time outdoors in their local green spaces. They will target marginalised rural communities as well as working with young offenders and inner city schools.
Their programme of public events will provide opportunities
for individuals and communities to participate in hands-on
activities and discover nature in local green places.
They will deliver workshops to support teachers, volunteers, staff and community groups to use OPAL surveys to engage others to identify and
record the wildlife around them and provide longer term support to
develop skills and confidence in those most in need.
